What is BOWAND?
BOWAND stands for The Belize Organization For Women And Development. We are the only
non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to assisting poor grassroots women and
their families to have a say in the development of their communities and Belize.
Our Goals Are:
- Reaching For The Equality Of Women And Men.
- Helping Women To Lift Their Self-Esteem.
- Increasing Recognition Of Womens Rights, Potential And Worth.
- Helping Women To Be More Assertive.
- Encourage Women To Take Charge Of The>r Own Situations.
Our Mission is:
To assist with the empowerment of women through Member Development and
Education, Community Development, Public Awareness and Advocacy .

Our History:
In 1979, twelve bold Belizean women got together and
decided that they wanted to work for the betterment and recognition of their Belizean
sisters.
That group named itself BOWAND in 1982 when they developed a constitution.
The sisters also adopted the motto "Women Working Towards Our Own Solutions",
the very same motto we still use today.
Ten years later, the organization was still going strong. It was 1992, and BOWAND was
fighting for better wages and working conditions for all women in Belize. BOWAND was
victorious in helping to get better wages for many workers.
Its now 1997, and BOWAND is now working towards gender awareness, so that the
roles of women and men can be understood, and the value of women, more appreciated.

What BOWAND Offers:
- Special training courses and workshops in areas like Small Business Management.
- Monthly bulletin and quarterly magazine, keeping members informed and entertained.
- Womens Wellness Day Fair and other public awareness activities.
- Monthly meetings where members share, learn and laugh together.
- Local neighbourhood groups where women take the lead in addressing neighbourhood
problems together.

And Much more!

Our Vision is:
To maintain BOWAND as the leading organization in Gender Awareness, Advocacy, Education
and Development, Community Sprit, and work among Belizean women.
