Our History:

imagen/grupo.gif (29644 bytes)In 1979, twelve bold Belizean women got together and decided that they wanted to work for the betterment and recognition of their Belizean sisters.

That group named itself ’BOWAND’ in 1982 when they developed a constitution. The sisters also adopted the motto "Women Working Towards Our Own Solutions", the very same motto we still use today.

Ten years later, the organization was still going strong. It was 1992, and BOWAND was fighting for better wages and working conditions for all women in Belize. BOWAND was victorious in helping to get better wages for many workers.

It’s now 1997, and BOWAND is now working towards gender awareness, so that the roles of women and men can be understood, and the value of women, more appreciated.
